DARA DUBH
With the harp as her trusted companion, Dara Dubh pulls influences from the variety of musical styles that have surrounded her musical journey thus far. This creates a blend of genres all her own. As a versatile artist, Dara has captivated audiences in intimate acoustic settings and electrifying plugged performances alike. Her song writing explores her personal experiences of the world with emotive and heartfelt lyricism, which resonates with a wide array of listeners. Challenging the idea of an instrument often associated with traditional music, the harp has found new life in Dara’s hands as she pushes the boundaries of its capabilities, infusing indie-pop sensibilities with her authentic vocals.
Originally from the north of Ireland Dara made Edinburgh her home in 2019, working hard in the city’s small venues to develop her sound. In 2024 that work paid off as she really began to get noticed. In that year she became a JBL & Martin Garrix Music Academy top 10 UK artist, was included in The List’s 2024 ‘Hot 100’ and nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ at the SAMA’s. It would be fair to say that Dara has burst into the Scottish music scene.
Her music has received airplay on BBC Scotland and Ulster, with the last track from her debut EP Bubble Town, receiving ‘Track of the Week’ on BBC Scotland. She was scouted to be a soloist in the world renowned Edinburgh Military Tattoo and featured in an Off the Record showcase in 2024.
For this year’s Winter Festival Dara, on harp and lead vocals, will appear with full band – Tony McVey on drums, Eve Simpson on keys/vocals and Brad Phillips on doublebass – performing a set of brand new unreleased music plus a few favourites from her popular back catalogue .
